Arlen Specter: “I forgot what team I was on.”
Harry Reid to Blitzer: Last night I came to him and I said “Arlen what’s all this about?” And he said “I forgot what team I was on.”
Harry Reid’s response to Wolf Blitzer was a bit tentative to say the least. The controversy over Arlen Specter’s defection of the Democratic Party continues. The issue was over a statement Specter said to Harry Reid that he still hopes Republican Norm Coleman prevails in the courts over Al Franken–who won the Minnesota Senate race: “There’s still time for the Minnesota courts to do justice and declare Norm Coleman the winner.”
Wait a minute, Arlen. Are you supporting Coleman?
“In the swirl of moving from one caucus to another, I have to get used to my new teammates,” Specter said. “I’m ordinarily pretty correct in what I say. I’ve made a career of being precise. I conclusively misspoke.” Well, he’s also made a career of switching sides. It must be a Senator’s prerogative to change his mind. Remember that Arlen Specter began his career as a Democrat. He defected to Republican and remained that way for 30 years. Now he’s back.
This kind of flip-flopping is so typical of politicians, only this time we can see right through the B.S. as clear as day. Who do these guys think they’re fooling?
